On 28 October, Valcambi participated in a conversation titled ‘No Going Back: Supporting Responsible Mining in the Jewellery Supply Chain’ at the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Initiative Art & Culture (IAC) International Gold Conference
This event brings together industry trailblazers for a probing exploration of ethical sourcing and responsible practices in the jewellery sector.
Together with De Beers, independent designer Ute Becker, PACT, the Alliance for Responsible Mining and Gem Exhibition & Conference, Virginie Bahon, Head of Corporate Affairs at Valcambi, discussed how the production and demand sides of mining can work together to assure responsible, ethical and sustainable practices in supply chains—affirming commitment to the work underway to support responsible artisanal and scale-mining, and undertaken by many individuals, organizations, and companies, while hoping to encourage others to follow suit.
“Artisanal mining is an important part of the industry, and a source of income for millions of people. It presents many challenges, but we want to encourage companies and individuals to participate in the various initiatives to support the sector to improve their practices and make the gold they extract part of their value chain. In doing so, they will contribute to better working conditions and livelihood for the miners.”
‘All that glitters’ concluded with IAC honoring Anisa Kamadoli Costa, Chief Sustainability Officer and Chairman and President of The Tiffany & Co. Foundation Tiffany & Co., as the recipient of IAC’s 2020 Award for Ethical Leadership in Responsible Practice in Jewellery.
