Valcambi’s headquarters and refining operations are located at Balerna in south-eastern Switzerland. We are a 15-minute drive from Lugano to the north, and a 30-minute drive from Milan in Italy to the south.
Our closest international airport is Milan Malpensa, Italy, just 30 minutes across the border.
Situated on a 3.3 hectare site, Valcambi’s precious metals refinery is one of the largest dedicated facilities in the world.
Using state-of-the-art technology, the entire operation applies the most stringent security monitoring and quality control systems.
Valcambi’s annual combined refining capacity of gold, silver, and platinum group metals is approximately 2,000 metric tonnes.
But refining is not all we do.
Our complete range of services includes refining, manufacturing cast and minted bars, assaying, developing specialist semi-finished products for the watch industry, as well as designing and manufacturing coins, medals, blanks, and complex alloys.
In Switzerland and beyond: our firm deliberately keeps a low profile but has over the years become a key player in the precious metals refining industry.
Michael Mesaric - CEO
Our clients include some of the largest mining companies in the world, premium luxury watch manufacturers, the largest international banks, governments, and central banks.
Valcambi is an independent company, employing 179 people at its plant and offices. An important contributor to our ongoing success is the stability of our workforce. Many Valcambi employees have worked for the company for over 15 years. Given our location, a number of our employees speak Italian as well as English, French, and German.
Valcambi was initially founded by a group of private Swiss investors who had over 50 years interest in the precious metals business.
Until July 2015, Valcambi was owned by European Gold Refineries Holding SA (EGR), which was partly owned by Newmont Mining (60.6%) and partly owned by private investors (39.4%).
On 26 July 2017, EGR was absorbed into Global Gold Refineries Ltd (GGR), incorporated in Switzerland. Today Valcambi is fully owned by GGR, which belongs to REL Singapore PTE Ltd in Singapore (95%) and Rajesh Exports Limited (5%), a stock market listed company (NSE/BSE) in Bangalore, India (www.rajeshindia.com).
Throughout its 60-year history Valcambi has focused solely on the business of precious metals refining. Our success and reputation are built on our philosophy of remaining committed to our employees, to our clients, and to the industry that we service.
Our logo is a frame made of four equal triangles, singularly representing a stylised 400 oz LBMA Good Delivery gold bar, cut diagonally.
With just one boutique refinery, Valcambi is little known outside of refining circles, although we are a leading global player.
Our specialised refinery draws on the best practices in technology and manufacturing to meet our clients’ needs and objectives.
Valcambi offers the highest levels of service in precious metals refining.
